About Building a New World

In partnership with the Built Environment Trust, we developed and delivered a series of workshops for Key Stage 2 students entitled ‘Building a New World’, which tied in with the ‘Homegrown’ exhibition at the Building Centre focusing on sustainable building materials. The sessions were hands-on investigations into how materials such as straw, timber, compost waste, mycelium and cob can be used to create an eco-friendly urban environment.

Young people got a chnace to make their own cob bricks, and were introduced to various sustainable materials and asked to work out what they were made from and what they could be used for. They were then invited to share their ideas about how these materials could be integrated into an innovative and playful design for the future.
