Lea Bridge: Play

Spaces for Young People in Lea Bridge

Spaces for Young People in Lea Bridge

We worked with Waltham Forest Council in 2022 to support young people to share their ideas for future social and play spaces they would like to see in their neighbourhood.

Young people from secondary schools in Lea Bridge shared their ideas through collage, model making and mappings. Ideas include: spaces for pausing & reflecting; gathering and physical play; shelter from the elements; incorporating the natural environment; creating definable destination spaces within larger open public spaces – all whilst feeling safe and acknowledging the reflections of a wide range of perspectives. Their ideas also included strong responses relating to accessibility and intergenerational, inclusive use of space.

These suggestions had helped to develop ideas for some of the potential projects in the Lea Bridge Area Framework. The Council’s intention was to support a 15 minute neighbourhood with facilities that meet residents’ needs available within a short walking distance of everyone’s homes. That included places and spaces for young people to meet and express their identities whilst feeling safe and comfortable.
