About the project
This project saw MATT+FIONA plugging into an apprenticeship programme that Euston Skills Centre werecarrying out in collaboration with the H3 Federation and Haverstock school. The ‘Level-1 Construction Course’ is aimed at young people aged 16-18 to study alongside the mainstream curriculum provision.
The brief, to design new seating and tables for the 6th form students’ dedicated outside space, was both an opportunity for them to bring design into their construction skilling, and to apply their Level-1 skills to a project that would be used by the wider school’s students. In turn, the project built confidence and pride within the cohort.
The seating was made using green-oak that was sustainably sourced and allowed the young people to construct every component of the furniture over a 3-day build at Eston Skills Centre.
The project has been seen as a successful pilot and we hope and anticipate it will be implemented as an annual culmination to the ‘Level-1 Construction Course’.
